Motorcyclist suffers fatal injuries in Louisiana crash

On Behalf of | May 9, 2014 | Wrongful Death |

Spring is a great season for many to dust off their motorcycles and head out on the open road. Many motorcycle riders likely enjoy the sense of freedom that a motorcycle allows. A motorcycle allows riders to experience a wide range of motion and actively engage in their riding experience, leaning to turn and using their bodyweight to steer the vehicles.

These benefits of motorcycle riding do not come without their cost, however. The same small frame that allows riders to enjoy this sense of freedom also takes away from the safety rating of the vehicles. Sadly, it is not uncommon for serious injuries or fatalities to occur following motorcycle accidents.

A recent motorcycle accident in Louisiana had tragic consequences. According to reports, a 64-year-old man died in an accident that involved his motorcycle and another vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle was a 23-year-old woman. The crash occurred on a Louisiana highway, on a Wednesday, after the 23-year-old driver attempted to make a left turn while the 64-year-old motorcycle rider was headed eastbound. Her vehicle struck the motorcycle, tragically killing the rider. She was issued a ticket for failing to yield.

Drivers of other vehicles need to pay attention to motorcycles. Failing to do so can have devastating consequences. Motorcycle riders are largely unprotected and vulnerable to injury or death in an accident. If a driver fails to exercise the amount of caution necessary to prevent such an accident, that driver may be found guilty of negligence, in which case the families of victims may wish to file wrongful death lawsuits. A successful wrongful death lawsuit can often help family members receive the monetary relief they need to begin focusing on their emotional recoveries, without being plagued by financial burdens.
