Residents in Louisiana often see an increase of traffic during holiday weekends and during the summer months. As people travel for vacations and celebrations, they frequently encounter heavy traffic. In addition, drivers are more likely to encounter negligent drivers who might be speeding, impaired or distracted. This could lead to a serious or tragic accident.

Recently, the nation paused to celebrate American independence. Many gathered with family and friends to commemorate the occasion. For one family, the holiday will now serve as a reminder of the day a loved one never came home. An 18-year-old has lost his life after succumbing to injuries sustained from a car crash.

The accident occurred on Siegen Lane near the Industrial Boulevard. It was about 2:30 a.m. when a pedestrian tried to cross Siegen Lane. When they entered the street to attempt to cross the road; a Ford F-150 was traveling northbound on Siegen Lane. Although the pickup truck driver tried to avoid the pedestrian crossing the road, they failed to evade them and collided with them.

Emergency crews immediately transported the pedestrian to the hospital for medical treatment where he later died. The investigation by Louisiana State Police is ongoing, and at this time, authorities do not believe the driver was impaired. No charges or citations have been issued at this time..

Following investigation, authorities should be able to establish cause and liability. This could result in criminal and civil actions against the driver at fault.. In the state of Louisiana, family members may bring a wrongful death lawsuit after a loved one has been killed in an accident such as this one. Loss of life, income and companionship are all factors that can be considered when a court determines compensation for an accident victim.

Pedestrian accidents can be particularly devastating due to the damages the impact of a vehicle could cause an individual. An accident attorney can help families determine the best course of action when a loved one has been lost due to reckless driving.
