Memorial Day weekend car accident claims life

The nation recently paused to recognize those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service during Memorial Day weekend, a time when family and friends usually get together at various gatherings throughout the country. However, one family is now dealing with the aftermath of losing a member after a 49-year-old woman lost her life in a car accident.

The name of the deceased was being withheld by the New Orleans Police Department. The accident occurred on May 25, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. The woman attempted to drive her Toyota Camry across St. Claude. Unfortunately, she was struck by another driver in a 2001 GMC Sierra pickup. The Sierra was headed westbound on St. Claude at the time of the collision. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Toxicology tests are pending, and the driver of the Sierra is listed in stable condition at a local hospital.

This fatal car accident is yet another example of how a life can be lost due to the negligence of another person. Though details of this accident are still under investigation, surviving family members of the victim may one day choose to file a wrongful death suit against the other driver. Louisiana law allows children or the spouse of a deceased person to file a claim for compensation.

These family members will want to get all of the right information in order to ensure they receive the proper compensation. In addition to the claim for loss of income or medical bills, damages may also be recovered for loss of love and affection from the deceased.
