Suspect in custody after fatal 18-wheeler accident

On Behalf of | Jun 6, 2014 | Truck Accidents |

Justice may be at hand for the loved ones of a woman killed in an accident. Lahisha Walls died at the scene of a fatal vehicle accident on Friday May 23, 2014. Walls drove a Toyota Avalon when she crossed the median into oncoming traffic. The Toyota was struck on the passenger side by an 18-wheeler. After an investigation by Baton Rouge police, more was discovered about the accident.

Due to an anonymous community tip, it was discovered that Walls crossed the median to avoid being hit by another vehicle. The driver of a 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo moved into her lane. After Walls fatal car accident with the truck, the driver of the Chevrolet refused to stop and fled the scene. That driver has now been identified as Thomas Moore III of Baton Rouge.

At the time of the accident, Moore was unlicensed because it had previously been revoked. Moore now faces charges of felony hit and run, driving on roads laned for traffic and for driving without a license. He has been booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. It is unclear what charges will be brought against the driver of the 18-wheeler.

Both car and truck accidents can have devastating effects. The effect of a truck accident can be even greater due the impact of the mass of a large truck. Medical bills, lost wages and permanent injuries can affect an accident victim’s ability to return to life as it was before the accident. It may be helpful for an accident victim to seek legal counsel to determine all legal options.
