Products liability: Kraft cheese recall affects Louisianans

As fall approaches, Louisiana parents begin to prepare for their children to return to school. Along with new school clothes and school supplies, there are school lunches that must be prepared. A staple in Louisiana school lunches are grilled cheese sandwiches, many of which prepared with Kraft cheese singles. This lunch staple is now in danger due to a recent recall.

Almost 40,000 cases of Kraft cheese are being recalled. The individually wrapped cheese singles have been deemed a choking hazard. The affected packages have a "best when used by" date that spans Dec. 29, 2015, to Jan. 4, 2016. The manufacturing code has either S54 or S55. The packages involved in the recall are three and four pound American and white American slices.

The problem with the cheese packages is that parts of the wrapping can remain on the cheese after removal. When not properly removed, the left over wrapping can become a choking hazard. Ten complaints have already been made to the company, and there have been three reports of choking.

The affected packages were sold throughout the United States, Puerto Rico and Grand Cayman Islands. Louisianans with an affected package should return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund.

Recalls, such as this one, highlight what can happen when a defective product hits the market place. Anyone that has been injured by a defective product may seek to recover compensation for their economic losses. Injured victims may be unable to work or pay their medical bills. A personal injury attorney may be able to help victims mount a product liability claim.
