Navy veteran killed in fatal car accident

On Behalf of | Oct 3, 2013 | Auto Accidents |

On September 18, 2013, the life of a serviceman in Louisiana was brought to an end. This Navy veteran did not lose his life on the battlefield. Instead his life was taken by a drunk driver in a fatal car accident just miles from his home.

The Navy veteran was driving home from night class at Southern University of Louisiana when another driver ran a red light and collided with the car being driven by the serviceman. The driver that ran the red light then went careening into the side of a residential home. The impact of the collision left the Navy veteran with fatal injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Though toxicology reports are not yet back from the lab, a field sobriety test conducted at the scene verified that the driver that ran the red light was under the influence at the time of the accident. The Navy veteran leaves behind an adult daughter, his mother and siblings. If he had survived he would have earned his degree in computer science later this year.

Despite the many ads discussing the dangers of drunk driving, many drivers still get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol. The result of this negligence is often the injury or death of citizens who share the roadways. Injured victims and the family members of those who are killed can be left with a mountain of medical bills that they are unable to pay.

These victims need proper compensation to help them through their recovery. Insurance companies can serve as a roadblock to financial recovery. An attorney that specializes in car accidents can advocate for these victims to ensure that they receive the compensation that they deserve.
