GM attempts to avoid product liability with a round of Recalls

Since the beginning of 2014, General Motors (GM) has recalled 30 million cars worldwide. Some may believe that the news could not get any worse for the car maker. However, just last week GM issued additional recalls on vehicles manufactured between 2011 and 2015.

The company has made it clear that no deaths of which they are aware have occurred from these manufacturer defects. However, two car crashes have been linked to the recalls. According to GM Global Vehicle Safety Vice President Jeff Boyer, the company is bringing greater rigor and discipline to their decision making. In Boyer's view, any issue, great or small, that could affect a customer's safety requires decisive action.

The front-seat height adjustor is being recalled for Chevrolet Camaro, Chevrolet Equinox , GMC Terrain, Buick Regal and LaCrosse and Cadillac SRX models. Incomplete welding on a seat hook bracket is being blamed for the recall on the Chevrolet Caprice, Chevrolet SS, Chevrolet Silverado LD and HD, Cadillac ATS, Cadillac CTS, Cadillac ELR, Buick Encore, Sierra LD and HD. There are additional recalls that can be found on the company's website.

GM is currently in various stages of litigation across the country due to issues resulting from recalls administered earlier this year. Any company that places an item into the stream of commerce, in Louisiana or elsewhere, is charged with producing a safe product. When merchandise is being used in the manner for which it was designed, and causes injury to a consumer, the manufacturer could be held liable for the defective product. Injured consumers have a right to compensation. An experienced product liability attorney may be able to help consumers recover needed compensation.
